It’s official…I’m losing it! The COVID-19 Virus has lead
me down the path of insanity…I suddenly have the
urge to study Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave”.

I had no intention of writing about this topic until last night while having a glass of
wine with a friend. She was the 2nd person this week that had mentioned odd
things going on. For example….

  • I’m hearing muffled voices in various rooms in my house, but no one is there.
  • I’m smelling the sweet smell of Tabaco from my deceased fathers’ pipe.
  • I’m having crazy dreams.

How did I respond…

ME TOO!

These same occurrences have been happening to me on and off for the past
month. I never talk about it in my blog, but I grew up in a haunted house, so I
know the signs of wondering spirits. However where I live now…is not haunted.
And the people who have mentioned these odd occurrences also do not live in
haunted houses. So what is going on?

The veil of perception is thinning and shifting.

What does this mean? I wasn’t sure myself, so I Googled it and stumbled across
an interesting article. The World Is Not Getting Worse.. In summary, the veil is
thinning and…

Sitting In A Puddle Of Emotions {Joy In The Journey}

For the past several months, clients have been signing up for Energy Reboots in
order to release pent up energy in their bodies due to excessive emotional shifts
happening on both individual and collective levels. Yesterday I was hit with an
emotional wave of….

grief, sadness, fear, and anger

This wave of emotions stopped me in my tracks. Whenever I get hit with one of
these waves, I always ask myself the following…

1.  Is this emotion mine? If so, can I name it and own it? Can I acknowledge its
story without wallowing in it for days or weeks?

2.  Is this emotion someone else’s? If so, can I allow the emotion to flow
through me like a wave without holding onto it as if it is mine to keep and
feel burdened by? Example: Do you hang onto ugly gifts or do you add it to
the ugly gift exchange.

3.  Is this emotion someone else’s emotion that has triggered my shadow
emotions? If so, can I lean into the emotion, name it, and feel it without the
need to suppress, control, or fix it?

Let’s face it, if you are like me, you were probably told to stuff down your
emotions and to hide or ignore them. No one taught you how to manage
unpleasant emotions or learn how to find the “hidden” gift each emotion contains.
Imagine if we could learn to accept all of our emotions as is without needing to
label them as good or bad.

Feeling In A Rut? {Finding_Joy_In_The_Journey}

During this pandemic, my daily routine has turned into
a rigid rut.

I read a Facebook post by Elizabeth Gilbert earlier this week that made me go
hmmmm…

Do something different till better comes along.

As a reflected on her post, I realized that over the course of the past 4+ months,
my daily COVID-19 routine has turned into a rigid list of MUST Do’s. I MUST
meditate, I MUST do yoga, I MUST write, I MUST journal, I MUST watch the
news and keep up on current events, etc..  Reading her Facebook post made me realize that…

My routine had turned into a rigid To-Do List of what I MUST DO.

No wonder why I’m been starting to get irritable and cranky! So this week, I’ve
decided to take on Elizabeth’s challenge and mix things up a bit and make PLAY
a priority every day. So…

I looked at my To-Do List and decided to turn it into a “Joyful Productivity” To-Do List.

What does “Joyful Productivity” To-Do List look like to me…
I created a 5 minute nature sound bath (with the help of cats and birds) at 5:30
AM in the morning (click on the picture below).

I took 5 minutes every morning to pull a few weeds instead of following the I
MUST weed until all of the weeds are gone approach.

I took a daily 20 minute work break at 9:00 AM and joined a ZOOM call where I
danced with other Movement Medicine friends (discovered this group while living
in England).

I took a Soul Collage On-Line 3 hour workshop to connect to my intuition. I
created a collage based on the question “How has nature assisted me during this
pandemic?”.

Shifting my MUST DO To-Do List to a JOYFUL To-Do List has shifted my
perspective, my routine and my attitude. As a result, I feel…

Happier, more energetic, and more inspired!

5 Ways To Get Out Of A Funk {FInding Joy In The Journey}

This funk storm won’t last forever!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been in a total funk for the past month. Last Friday, my business mentor asked me…

“When was the last time you played?”

I seriously couldn’t remember, but I can guess it has been at least 2 months. One of my favorite ways to play is to go “shopping for ideas”. However given the current rules when going into stores, shopping for inspiration just isn’t fun right now. So I had to open up my tool box and remind myself that I do have other options. So here is my list….

Declutter your physical space.  Decluttering is a great way to cut the cords of the physical past that no longer serve you and create space for something new to come into your life. Even just washing the dishes or sweeping the floor can start to shift the energy of yourself and your space.

Decutter your mental space.  One practice I especially recommend is writing “morning pages”, as described by Julia Cameron in “The “Artist’s Way”. The idea is that you write freehand the first thing in the morning with the goal of filling 3 pages every day. It doesn’t matter what you write about, just write whatever comes to mind. You are basically decluttering your brain. This has an incredible clarifying and freeing effect. At the beginning of the day, you get to notice and release all of the things that are clouding your mind as it helps you get out of a funk. This week, I’m going to try doing this before I go to bed at night just to clear out the extra clutter (as I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night with all kinds of random thoughts).

Create something.  sing the artistic/intuitive parts of your brain can help you bring clarity to the parts of your life that you cannot logically comprehend. You can create something with your hands, dance, play music…anything that engages the senses.


Give To Others Kindness can heal
.  When you start to feeling like you are in a funk, make a point of doing something kind for someone else. Kindness and good deeds are proven mood lifters.

Before this pandemic, I was so clear on what I wanted to do, but now I’m questioning myself. I’m filled with self-doubt, confusion, and anxiety!

Do You Feel Like Every Day Is Groundhog’s Day? {Finding Joy In The Journey}

What would you do if you were stuck in one place and every day was exactly the same, and nothing that you did really mattered?

Everyday this week I woke up with one question…
What day of the week is it?


Over the course of the past 2 months, my routine has become the same – I get up, shower, feed the cats, make coffee, have breakfast, watch 30 minutes of the news, and then go upstairs and start working. Through out each day, the cats appear with the main objective of irritating me by walking on my laptop, bringing me “gifts”, snoring, and picking fights with each other. Sound familiar?


I spoke to a colleague and mentioned that I’m starting to feel like every day is groundhog day. HIs question to me…

Do you wake up every morning, stare at the ceiling, and listen to your alarm go off to the song “I Got You Babe”?

Thank god…NO!!!

But his question got me thinking about how this current pandemic has turned each of our own lives into a personal version of Groundhog Day. So I decided to re-watch the movie and assembled some life lessons:


It’s always a good time to ask what you want out of life.

Are you playing a starring role in your own movie – or are you an extra watching the scenes unfold as a spectator in your own life? Life is too short to be passive.


Happiness can be found in the very ordinary activities of life.

How often do you gripe and grumble but not change anything? If you want things to change, you have to be willing to change!


Different can be good.

How would you like your life to look? Rather than seeing this situation as a curse, start enjoying the freedom of doing things differently.


And you need people in life.

Who are in the people in your life right now and why? Do these people make you feel good by supporting you and challenging you to be the best that you can be? Or do these people take your time and energy and make you feel like crap?


Let’s face it, at one point or another we have all been trapped in a situation where no matter what we did, we couldn’t remove ourselves from the endless uninspiring cycle. Dwelling on the situation and blaming everyone and everything doesn’t solve the problem. At some point you have to put on your big boy/girl pants and take one small step forward like Bill Murray does in the movie Groundhog Day. For me, this week, I realized that I needed more support with expanding and growing my on-line business, so I hired a business mentor that will assist me in stepping outside of the box.

I’ve been a little slow with writing my blog for this past week. I had good intentions but on Saturday I got sidetracked with gardening and on Sunday I had an urge to finally clean out my closet room that turned into a junk room. It took 6 hours to clean out 95% of the room. There are still 3 baskets I need to review but I’m guessing they will be going to the burn pile this week. So here it is Monday morning and I feel like I need a vacation. So I have decided to cancel this month’s New Moon Sound Journey Workshop and instead take a long 4 day weekend and just relax.

I will be starting up the next round of the Soul Circle Group as soon as the Illinois Shelter-In place restrictions are lifted. I will be limiting the space to 8 people. Details are below.

I was rather surprised and curious about where that card would lead us on the path to transformation this week. Shortly after I completed the mini-sound bath, I checked my email and I had several opportunities for “pay what you want” education in regards to permaculture, biodynamics, and medicinal herbs. So I signed up for 2 workshops and 2 movies and found myself going down the rabbit hole…back to a passion of my I left on the back burner in 2005 (growing and educating people on medicinal herbs).


Tuesday I found myself ordering wild flower seeds on line and coming up with a medical herb landscaping plan for the Kent Emporium. During the Tuesday Facebook Live, I selected a Hero’s Journey card to see where we all are on our transformational journey and got,…

Vulture – Nothing Is Wasted

Thursday I watched the news and listened as people spoke about being turned away from hospitals unless the person needed a ventilator to assist with breathing. I get it, there is no real cure for the coronavirus yet. From a time/money/resource perspective, hospitals believe it is easier for people to take care of themselves at home vs. the hospital. And there is the flaw. A large portion of the public does not know how to take care of themselves. No disrespect to the medical establishments, but as a society we have been trained to go to the doctor, get a prescription, and then go to the pharmacy to pick up our magic pills. For example – who knows that when you have a dry cough you should put a hot mustard pack on your chest to warm up your lungs in order to loosen the mucus? Or that some “weeds” that grown in Northern Illinois can be useful? Mullein tea is a perfect example of respiratory support for dry coughs and a mix of yarrow, elderflowers, and peppermint tea is good for sweeting out a fever.


How do I know this stuff? I started to study herbalism in the late 1990’s. I even got a certificate in herbalism from Rosemary Gladstar long before on-line training existed. I went on to study essential oils and flower essences through The Australasian College of Herbal Studies and was hired part time for 1 year to assist with long distance training in the early 2000’s. I even started my own herbal business back in 1999 called “Soil and Soul”. I use to grow my own plants, 
harvest them, and produce my own teas, tinctures, tonics, and creams. That is actually the start of how I ended up in Kent Illinois. I purchased 20 acres 15 minutes south of Kent in order to grow medicinal herbs. I moved to Kent several years after purchasing the land.


As I look back over the twists and turns, it is rather funny that I have ended up right back where I started…

A Passion For Medicinal Herbs

So where is this going? I really don’t know. I figured I would start with landscaping this weekend and I’m sure by next week I will have the summer workshop plan assembled and ready to roll out. So stay tuned!!!

Week 9 of being full-time in Kent. As background information, my last trip was to Ottawa (Feb 18-Feb 22) to finalize my Soul Coaching Facilitation Certification. Since then I have been grounded and living full-time at the Kent Emporium. I don’t think I have stayed this long in one place since 2006. I have actually been enjoying my time at Kent, until this past week when I had a meltdown. What pushed me over the edge…

Merlin the Cat

Seriously, does he have to walk over my computer keyboard hourly? Does he have to sit right next to my computer daily? Does he have to pick fights with sleeping cats? Does he have to squeeze into a cat bed already taken by another cat? Does he have to sleep attached to my hip at night?

Isn’t it funny the thing that pushes your over the edge!

I remember going through past transformations. It was never the big changes that pushed me over the edge (example – moving to a new country), it was always the stupid little things. In Toronto, it was not being able to use a USA Best Buy Card at a Canadian Best Buy store. You must have a Canadian Best Buy card for Canada purchases (different banking systems). In England, it was the color coding of the milk jugs (the colors are the exact opposite of the US). In US, while waiting for my divorce to be finalized, it was the lawyer stalling in hopes of getting more money (it didn’t work!).

It’s always the little things that drive me to have a transformational meltdown.

From past experience, I know that when I look back at my most recent meltdown moment, I will laugh at what pushed my buttons…

My “meltdown moments” are always my signal that my old life is over and its time to accept it. I need to…

Stop resisting change and just move forward!

But were do you begin when your life has been turned upside down? When you feel like you are staring at a blank canvas and not knowing what color to start with? This is where I start when I’m feeling confused as to where to begin.

  •  Make a list of things that make you happy.
  •  Make a list of things you do every day.
  •  Compare the lists.
  • Adjust accordingly.

Start doing this exercise every day and before you know it, you are moving forward through change and transforming your life. And if you would like to go deeper, there are still a few spots open for this Sunday’s New Moon Crystal Sound Bath Journey. During this workshop, we dive deeper into the “open space” and discover what seeds we are ready to plant for this new season.
