Time Warps, Mercury Retrograde, and Eclipses…Oh My

“I’m not going to live by their rules anymore!”

~Bill Murray – Groundhog Day

I don’t know about you, but for the past several weeks I feel like I’ve been living in a time warp and it is looking a lot like…

Groundhog Day

And just like in the movie, the same stories and scenes kept playing out again and again and again. For a while I thought it was only me noticing this. However as I spoke to several dear friends this week who live in different parts of the US, I realized that they too had observed the same thing…

with friends, with family, and with the country.

And it appears that time warps are the energy and theme of this month’s Mercury Retrograde and Eclipses. I’m not going to go into details about what a Mercury Retrograde is, however I have attached a link if you want more detail.

Instead I’m going to tell you how this energy showed up in my own life last week in hopes that it will shed some light on your situation (because I don’t want you to think that you are going crazy alone).

  • Wednesday; Family drama
  • Thursday: Family drama
  • Friday: Family drama

I’m sure you get the picture. Growing up in my family, I was tagged with the roles of:

Peacekeeper and the Fixer

Whenever a family drama occurred, I was called in to appease everyone and to fix the issue. Needless to say the tactic worked well when I was a child (survival tactic), however as an adult, this family role has continually stopped me from moving forward with my own dreams. I would be moving forward with my dreams and suddenly out of nowhere a family drama would occur, I would be called in as the peacekeeper and the fixer, and as a result I would put my dreams aside.

What has this theme taught me over the course of the past few years, which is now being amplified…

My behavior wasn’t helping anyone, including me!

Instead my childhood behavior became a “dump and run” excuse for my family to not grow up and take responsibility for their own lives. Which would then lead me into my own “never-ending story” of self-doubt around my dream. So when I saw the family drama behavior repeat itself 3 days in a row with the expectation that I would drop everything and take the reins, I decided to end the Groundhog day scenario and take another course of action.
Instead, I developed strong boundaries, spoke my truth and I walked away.

I told the family member “I love you but…you are an adult, you put yourself into this situation, and therefore you can get yourself out of the situation.”

That night, I went to bed feeling bad, ashamed, and distraught for having to define such extreme boundaries, as I value the importance of family. But at what point does one say enough is enough regarding old family patterns and drama and just walk away?

Fast forward to 2am when I was awaken by a message. I got out of bed, wrote down the message, and went back to bed. I was awake for maybe 5 minutes before I went back to bed and slept soundly until 6am. When I got out of bed, the first thing I did was walk into the kitchen to read what I wrote down. I laughed, because this was the answer that had been eluding me.

“You can’t reason with crazy!”

I’m not sure what is showing up for your time warp Groundhog extravaganza this month, but rest assured, I’m here to tell you that you are not alone!

Where are you in a time warp?
What does your past ask of the current?
What old story will you sacrifice in order to pursue your dream?

You too can change the rules…enjoy this great Groundhog Day clip!

Virtual Freedom Highway Road Trip

Here is where you can…
Redefine Yourself and Re-imagine Yourself

Prompt for the week:  The Tornado – an uncomfortable chaos surrounds you. Things that you’ve left unattended may be the cause of some conflict. Ask yourself…

  • Where is there a tornado in my life?
  • What is the tornado asking me to release?
  • Am I resisting the tornado? If so, why?
  • Remember….this too shall pass.

Please share your list on our private Facebook Group.

I will also be posting my road trip pictures at Instagram using #freedomhighway.
